how to tell it’s summer in south carolina

Post below should be edited to add that I might have a wee bit of guilt about not volunteering, but I am sending a capable, energetic teenager in my place. So, not much guilt. :)

And this year seems to be an abundance of these little critters. I've seen more in the last couple of weeks than I saw all summer last year. Wonder what is making them so active.

Leslie, I wonder if it's all the rain. More rain = more prey = more snakes? I don't mind the black snakes as long as I can observe them from afar. I hope you are enjoying your time off!

Michael found a big, thick one on the road in our neighborhood. Of course, he had to get out of the truck and inspect it with a stick! That would be Michael, my husband.

yes, we are having lots of snakes here too. I think you are right in that the rain has made them more adventurous and active. As long as they are nonpoisonous, I am OK with them.
